...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | When they open their gallery up and you instantly get a message dropping in the inbox.... Feeling utterly grateful for the amazing couples whose stories I get to tell:
“Peter! We just looked at all of the photos and we’re honestly lost for words! Lots of happy tears 🥹 Now to choose which ones to put up in the house (I think we’ll run out of wall space!)”
...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | I can’t quite explain how time passes by so damn fast but my word, it truly blows my mind! So to see that it’s been a whole year since celebrating these two... well, speechless is probably the best way to put it. Enjoying the most colourful blooming gardens, throwing off the shoes and dancing the night damn hard with your closest and listening to a day full of SO much laughter is definitely the way to go! A huge happy anni!!
...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | And now for something totally different which I thought you might enjoy!
What’s in the bag!?
The wedding season is officially in full swing over here, it’s always a strange one. You go from a relaxed winter period and before you know it, you step back on the rollercoaster... while it’s moving, haha! Thousands of images have been snapped already but I thought, why not take you behind the curtain to show you the kit I’m shooting on! :) My trusty setup which I literally know like the back of hand, which as most photographers will know, makes every ounce of difference for that ever changing light, and situations which can totally throw you off! But knowing the camera inside out basically means you can adapt within milliseconds. So, here goes, and before I go into the trusty kit, I purposefully shoot everything in Manual so I’ve got maximum control of everything, including Kelvin (the warmth of each photo) which makes life way easier when headed into editing. And also (I know, this is a lot, haha) as you’ll notice, always using Prime lenses. So what’s a prime lens? It’s a set focal length lens compared to a Zoom lens which you can change. Basically, the advantage of primes is having to physically move to get the shot you want which I’ve personally found can really help with creativity, as I’ve seen different compositions from alternate angles that work better. WIth a zoom lens you can find yourself planted into one spot a little more often if you’re not careful, so I like that it moves me about. But also, the glass of these lenses is just on a different level, so the pictures really pop which is just what we want.
...... kit continued in comments :)
Ps. The Mentos... a pack were in the camera bag so thought it rude not to include them but also, as my second shooters will know, I have to have snacks and a lot of them so defo a total nod to that too 😂
...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | Getting comfy in front of the camera? It’s way easier than you’d think, I promise! Honestly, most couples show up pretty nervous, thinking they’ll feel awkward the whole time... but then something kinda magic happens. Before they know it, they’re laughing, messing about, totally in their own little bubble, and telling me afterward it was way more fun than they ever expected. That right there? Best feeling ever!
Every couple’s vibe is totally different, and that’s what I love most about this job. It’s not a one-size-fits-all thing. Over the years (yep, like 13yrs now!), I’ve figured out a bit of a secret recipe, it’s all about really getting to know the people in front of my lens. Not just their wedding plans or what colour tones they’ve picked. I mean the real stuff. What makes them THEM. What they love doing together. What makes them laugh ‘til they cry. The kind of stuff that really makes them tick!
Once I’ve got that, I can create something that genuinely fits, like picking the perfect location that feels just right for them (with not another soul about), making sure their favourite tunes are queued up, and adjusting how I shoot so it never feels stiff or staged. It’s all these little things that help the whole experience feel effortless.
And then... the best bit happens. You see them melt into the moment. Just the two of them, fully present, grinning like mad, and having literally the best time. That’s when the real magic kicks in. From that point, the photos bascially take themselves. Relaxed. Natural. The way it’s meant to be.
And honestly? That’s the beauty of a pre-wedding shoot. It’s not just about getting great photos, it’s about capturing a little slice of the real connection that makes their love story theirs. And that is why I just adore a good pre-wedding.
...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | Some wedding stories just totally have it all; the natural sustainability focused venue in the middle of the middle of nowhere (bliss!), surrounded by colourful wild meadows (and you know I love a meadow) but above all else the perfect setting for an intimate countryside celebration. I’ve literally been so excited to tell their story, and to see it all playing out so beautifully was just such a beautiful thing! Ps.. the jealousy is hitting pretty hard that they’re seeing these sneak peek shots while honeymooning in stunning Japan, ha! A huge congratulations!!
...ugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png | Because truly telling a story isn’t always about the elements that grab the attention, it’s about all those subtle details that so easily get forgotten about, like how the light highlighted the serious stunning detail of the dress, or what flowers were in bloom around you on the day of your wedding, or even how the clouds above you were formed while you sipped on your favourite beverage. Along with all those epic moments that grab the attention, the small nuanced details really complete the story :) side quest for the today... notice the small stuff around you on this sunny Sunday, it’ll make your day an even better one.
