...s/instagram-feed-pro/img/placeholder.png | Over 14 posts we are profiling the recipients of our recent round of training bursaries.
Megan Graham @megan.eleanor.graham from Belfast will train in advanced pattern cutting and product development under the guidance of pattern cutter and dress maker Manuel Vadillo. Following the training, she plans to launch her own sustainable fashion brand inspired by heritage textiles and historical dress.
Megan’s bursary is funded by the @costume_society, the UK membership organisation formed in 1964 to promote the study and preservation of historic and contemporary dress. Its partnership with Heritage Crafts also saw a brand-new Fashion Textile Maker of the Year Award last year to silk weaver @s.bye.design at @whitchurchsilkmill, with a £2,000 prize presented at Eltham Palace in November. The 2025 award is currently open for nominations through the Heritage Crafts website.
Megan said:
“This funding from Heritage Crafts is invaluable. It gives me the space to explore and extract stories from historical archives and overlooked objects, breathing new life into what’s often seen as intangible history. It allows me to deeply engage with the processes of pattern cutting and draping, using modern tailoring techniques to reinterpret and deconstruct historical dress into pieces that celebrate craftsmanship of the past and present.”

Elliot’s career as a glass artist has taken him from four years of education in the industrial Midlands, to the heart of London as part of Peter Layton’s London Glass Blowing studio team, and eventually to a Stourbridge workshop with over 200 years of glass history and one of the four remaining traditional glass cones in the UK.
In 2022, Elliot was selected as a contestant on the surprise Netflix hit show ‘Blown Away’, where, through cool-headed determination, he was crowned the winner of Season 2, finishing the series with an incredible autobiographical installation, put together with help from the Corning Museum of Glass team in just eight hours.
In 2024 he was awarded a Heritage Crafts training bursary, supported by @soanebritain, to travel to the United States to learn the finer skills of mouth-blown flat glass making, in the hope of reviving this recently extinct craft in the UK.
The session will take place on Zoom and attendees must register in advance via the linktr.ee in our bio. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit questions in advance.

...s/instagram-feed-pro/img/placeholder.png | We are delighted to announce a new partnership with the Capri Holdings Foundation for the Advancement of Diversity in Fashion to launch ten bursaries for trainees from historically under-represented communities pursuing careers in fashion, accessory and jewellery crafts.
The initiative aims to address financial barriers that risk excluding talented individuals from gaining essential craft skills critical to fashion and allied industries.
We are also pleased to announce an exciting collaboration with luxury accessories house @jimmychoo, which will provide a bespoke support programme for the bursary recipients.
Applicants are invited to propose training that is tailored to their needs – whether institution-based courses or one-to-one workplace-based training, accredited or non-accredited. This innovative approach ensures accessibility for those whose talent might otherwise be lost to the fashion sector due to the high costs of training or other barriers.
Heritage Crafts has highlighted a growing imbalance in the fashion sector, where design-focused roles often overshadow the more foundational hand skills (such as pattern cutting, sewing and garment construction) that underpin luxury craftsmanship.
Sharon Diep, Director of Diversity & Inclusion at Capri Holdings, said:
“Our responsibility to promote an inclusive industry starts with ensuring equitable access to education and opportunity. Through the Capri Holdings Foundation, we are proud to partner with Heritage Crafts in pursuit of removing barriers and broadening access to fashion for individuals from historically underrepresented communities.”
Hannah Colman, CEO, Jimmy Choo, said:
“At Jimmy Choo, we believe that creativity and craftsmanship should be accessible to all. We are proud to support this important initiative, helping to open doors for the next generation of artisans.”
Find out how to apply via the linktr.ee in our bio. The deadline is 27 June 2025. Successful candidates will receive funding to cover training costs, mentorship opportunities, and access to industry networks.

Tilly Whitehouse @rejewellery.artist from Walsall will train in various jewellery making and stone setting techniques at @jewellersschooluk, @_thejqset, @stirchley_school_of_jewellery_, @thequarterworkshop and @jewellersacademy. She aims to create eco-conscious jewellery as an alternative to mass-produced items, as well as offering online courses to inspire others.
Tilly’s bursary is funded by @royalmintuk, whose mission is not only to create beautifully crafted products for its customers, but also to safeguard the skills and craftsmanship that underpin the precious metals industry. This is a part of an ongoing partnership with Heritage Crafts that also saw the presentation of the second Precious Metalworker of the Year Award in November 2024, to silver spinner Warren Martin from Sheffield, during a special reception at Eltham Palace, and featuring a trophy specially made by The Royal Mint team.
Tilly said:
“Getting this funding means the world to me! I have worked so hard and spent many hours over the past few months teaching myself, researching and learning how to make silver jewellery. I am so grateful I am being given this opportunity so I am able to learn more and perfect my craft so in the future I am able to inspire individuals to start this craft and keep it alive.”

...s/instagram-feed-pro/img/placeholder.png | This week’s #mondaymaker is Riina Õun - a glove maker.
Riina specialises in hand-crafted luxury leather gloves and was first introduced to the skill during her BA studies at the Leather Accessories department at the Estonian Academy of Arts. Riina started making leather gloves around twenty years ago, and established her brand, Riina O, twelve years ago.
As a result of an increased number of vegan clients, Riina began exploring what ‘vegan leather’ is made of and this inspired her to embark on the MA Material Futures course at Central Saint Martins in London. Riina seeks to explore new techniques in each of her collections, from laser cutting to leather marbling, bead embroidery, appliqué and more.
Glove making has recently been reclassified from endangered to critically endangered on our 2025 Red List.
If you want to read an exclusive interview about Riina’s work, become a member of Heritage Crafts and learn more in the members portal: https://www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/join-us/
