They want you numb, disconnected, and too exhausted to imagine something different. All of it works in their favor. Because the more you believe *this is just how it is*, the less likely you are to resist.
But joy?
Joy is dangerous. Joy means you’re still alive, still feeling, still believing there’s something worth fighting for.
Joy is a rebellion against despair.
And something as simple as working in your garden, feeling the sun on your shoulders, smelling the fresh, clean air, and holding a sweet bunch of spring flowers can be a weapon in that rebellion.
Doing deeply meaningful work that cultivates joy and nourishes our souls is the thing that reminds us:
Life is still beautiful. The seasons will march on. And we are allowed to want more than survival.

Our society is suffering from a void of empathy. We've forgotten all of the intricate ways that we are bound to each other, our planet, and every other living creature on it.
In the spirit of "you do you", we've created a vacuum of compassion & connection. That's not to say that celebrating our authenticity & individualism is a bad thing--unless it comes at the price of realizing an important truth: We need each other.
Take our food systems, for example. You simply cannot have the belief that policies affecting farmers don't also affect you. Or that the things that touch your life directly are more important than those that impact the systems upon which we all rely. Too many people are acting like "I can just go to the store to get my food". But how does that food get there without farmers?
We need to not only support farms through our economic policies, but also through the protection of the natural resources upon which those farms depend. As more and more farms are being replaced by housing developments, we are losing local food sources as well as destroying the ecosystems that are needed to provide for our communities.
Forty new homes might help a few people today, but it takes away land that can produce food, season after season, for thousands. That's not what I call "progress".
If we don't start caring about things beyond our immediate lives, we are going to find out in a hurry just how much we have to lose.
Making the world better starts with taking an interest in the well-being of others, even when it doesn’t concern you directly. Caring about issues that don’t directly affect you is the ONLY way to create a better future as a society.
Now is the time to take action & support local farms. Yes, now--before the harvests begin! Here are a few of the big ways to help:
1. Sign up for a farm share through a local farm's CSA program
2. Attend & shop your local Farmers Markets weekly
3. Visit farmstands & nurseries
4. Spread the word! Tell your friends your favorite farms. Help connect others.

We are officially less than 30 days from the start of springtime. The days are getting longer and, before we know it, there will be flowers again!
Sometimes when we’re in the middle of something, I think it can be easy to lose sight of the fact that all of life is one temporary circumstance after another. No matter how dark it gets, the sun will rise in the morning. The clouds and rain will give way to sunshine. Tears will dry and laughter will come again.
Too often, we spend our lives lamenting whatever we don’t presently have instead of finding peace in knowing that it will all come back around in due time. It’s such a shame to voluntarily live one’s days in a state of scarcity and unrest rather than embracing the unending cycles of life that naturally ebb and flow.
Soon, our gardens will be overflowing with abundance again...no matter how bitter the cold may feel today. Hang in there, friends. Good things are on the way! ❤️

| data:[...] Base64 | Believe it or not, our dahlia season starts in just a couple of weeks. That's when we'll begin working on our flower field by adding a layer of organic compost.
We want our flower field to rest for a good thirty days with that fresh compost. That's important for nutrient stability because fresh compost releases a burst of nitrogen, and while nitrogen promotes green growth on plants, too much of it is not ideal.
When a plant has too much nitrogen, it will prioritize producing excessive leafy growth at the expense of flower production, meaning it will likely produce fewer and smaller flowers, as the plant's energy is focused on developing foliage rather than blooms.
It's all about getting the right balance of nutrients to properly nourish our plants. And it reminds me about how important it is for us to do the same for ourselves.
There are times when we need to give ourselves rest in order to truly bloom and flourish. But it's tough because we live in a hustle culture where society tells us we're falling behind if we're not constantly pushing.
That's a myth.
Those who never rest will burn out. If not physically, then certainly spiritually. We must learn how to prioritize the nourishment of mind, body, and soul in order to show up and do good work in this life for the long haul.
Friends, I hope you're taking the time to nurture the garden beds of your own life so that you can bloom in beautiful ways. ❤️
